Port Melbourne Sharks Senior Head Coach Eric Vassiliadis, will be parting ways with the club following the last game of the season. The Board was notified of Vassiliadis’ decision to step down and respect & accept his resignation.
Vassiliadis has been the stronghold of the club coaching structure since 2010. He has steered the club to many on-field successes during his time including promotion of the club from State League 2 through to State League 1, VPL and into the National Premier League.
On behalf of the whole Sharks community, we sincerely thank Eric and his family for their sacrifices over the years and their never-ending support of the club. We wish Eric all the best for whatever lies ahead.
Whilst this is an end of a chapter for the Sharks, it also provides an exciting opportunity for a new direction within the club. Expressions of interest for the Senior Head Coach position are now being taken.
Resumes can be forwarded in confidence to the club President at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Port Melbourne SC will meet Pascoe Vale FC at C.B. Smith Reserve this Friday night in Round 18 of the 2016 NPL Victoria.
The clash sees the 8th placed Sharks visit 9th placed Paco with both sides desperate for the three valuable points on the line. Port will be looking to regain ground in the race for finals football after falling 1-0 to Melbourne Knights last week while Pascoe Vale will be looking to gain some breathing space from a clutch of teams level with them on 18 points. Until a fortnight ago Pascoe Vale had just the one win at C.B. Smith Reserve this season but wins against Heidelberg United & Northcote City have seen their home form-line improve. Port Melbourne are hunting redemption after disappointing results in both the FFA Cup and the league against Melbourne Knights last week. This will be Port Melbourne’s sixth successive away game across the two competitions and they will be seeking the third from that period.
The reverse fixture in Round 5 was a memorable encounter, goals to Luca Santilii and David Stirton saw the match poised at 1-1 before both sides had a man sent off, it the score remained that way until Jamie De Abreu’s sensational solo effort in the 91st minute sealed a 2-1 win for Port Melbourne.
